In recent time, sincere efforts have been made to integrate Buddhist practices into recovery culture and communities. Because there is no universal definition for, or understanding of what Buddhist Recovery is and how it works, many people find themselves confused and discouraged while looking for perspectives and practices that have meaningful and practical direction and outcome. This is also true for the practice of mindfulness. While it has made many inroads into various segments of society, its practice and theory remains vague.  Dave Smith has been a leading figure in the integration and creation of different Buddhist approaches to recovery. He also provides clinical trainings and develops mindfulness based curriculum for addiction treatment programs.  He is, and has been, dedicated to finding ways of integrating these transformative practices to those individuals who may need it most. Addiction has devastating impacts on our world, and it is only getting worse.

During this event, Dave will attempt to outline a simple and comprehensive framework for understanding how Buddhism and Dharma practice can be cultivated as means for overcoming addiction, embracing recovery, and creating a meaningful life. The session will include early Buddhist teachings, guided meditations, Q&A, and time for folks to talk with each other in hopes of establishing meaningful connection.
